Back to School, Forward on Two Wheels!
E-Bike Popularity Is on the Rise
E-bikes are no longer a fringe trend but are rapidly becoming mainstream. A 2025 study by the League of American Bicyclists and UL found that 39% of Bicycle Friendly University campuses report the daily presence of e-bikes. Meanwhile, shared micromobility is booming. In recent years, e-bikes accounted for 46% of station-based bike share trips in the U.S., signaling broad public embrace.
E-Bike Trend in College
College moves fast. Classes, labs, late-night runs, part-time work, weekends out of town. For students, e-bikes check multiple boxes: convenience, affordability, and environmental impact. Research indicates e-bikes help overcome barriers like topography and trip length, making them more appealing than regular bikes or cars. On campuses, e-bikes provide timely trips, reduce reliance on crowded transit, and support growing sustainability efforts.
Riding culture is especially vibrant in Boston, where Fifield comes from. Bluebikes, the city’s bike-share system, reported 4.7 million rides in 2024 across 520 stations, many located near Harvard and MIT campuses.
Fifield in Action: Harvard EV Ride & Drive
At Fifield, we're committed to making e-mobility accessible and sustainable. In July 2025, we co-sponsored the Boston EV Ride & Drive at Harvard University. Riders tested our e-bikes firsthand, learning how they support fast, green, and fun commutes. It was more than a demo—it was part of building a campus culture of clean, easy mobility.

Wrapping Up
From rising adoption and campus demand to policy support and hands-on experience, e-bikes are becoming central to the student experience—especially here in Boston. As the fall term starts, the message is clear: combine efficiency, freedom, and sustainability in one ride.
